Fit for a King / K by D&G

Fragrance for men is a fine line for me as it can either produce a subtle and reasonable upgrade to the stylish man or an overzealous overkill that screams “trying too hard” and dilutes one’s masculinity. Seems a little dramatic but seriously, a well dressed man can kill his vibe in my opinion by poisoning the room with his Hugo Boss (no disrespect Hugo).

One of my favourite items to review are men’s colognes. I am always fascinated by the packaging, the name it’s bestowed and of course, the nature of the scent. The truth is, I generally dislike 8 out of 10 as I’m simply particular in my preferences. The first thing that jumps out at you with K is it’s regal packaging and bottle. A chiseled rectangular base with a bad-ass hand-crafted brass and navy coloured king’s crown making this easily one of the coolest colognes to showcase on your bathroom vanity. 5 stars awarded to Dolce & Gabbana for nailing it.

Now let’s hit on the fragrance. The easiest way to describe one in my experience are by three categories, the top notes, the heart notes and the base. With that in mind, here is the essence of K:

Top Notes: A citrus blend of sparkling blood orange, pressed Sicilian lemon and a touch of juniper berry.

Heart Notes: A warming concoction of amber, sage, geranium and lavandin with a fiery spark of spicy pimento essence.

Base Notes: Masculine notes of one of my personal favourites, cedarwood merged with earthy vetiver and patchouli.

My final thought: I like it, a lot. Although rare, K fits into the two I like out of every random ten. It is fresh, cool and masculine and in my opinion can also be worn year around so need to fuss with scents for different seasons here.
